Vera Cruz was founded 15 years ago by John Cruz. When Mr. Cruz decided to return to his native Portugal in 1993, the company was bought by Colin and Eric David. The brothers jointly managed Vera Cruz as well as a Gaborone-based sister company, John F. Marshall (Botswana). Over the course of the following few years, a share-trade agreement was implemented which eventually left Colin as the only shareholder in Vera Cruz and Eric as the owner of John F. Marshall (Botswana).
When the company was founded, its core competency was tooling manufacture. The tools manufactured were used in the processing of both plastics and steel. Plastic parts were manufactured on plastic injection moulding machines, while metal components were produced on several eccentric presses.
Vera Cruz has always been a profitable company. Notwithstanding this fact, when Colin took over, it was with a vision for something better. Several years earlier, Colin had been to Germany and caught a glimpse of what a metal fabrication factory could look like. This vision, along with his natural inclination to nurture and grow a business, has resulted in a drive for continuous improvement.
In Colin's words: "We're good, but we're getting even better."
